Venceremos!

I don't need to tell anyone out there how excited I am that we may soon have a government of people who will sell us out instead of people whose sole purpose in life is to think up new ways to cut our throats. It is a distinction worth a real fight. Having a realistic idea about the eventual outcome can depress enthusiasm, though. At times like these, when you're likely experiencing candidate boredom, it is helpful to indulge in a little bit of fantasy and wishful thinking before the irritation with our erstwhile allies sets in roundabout January 3, if not this coming Wednesday.

For inspiration, try this rousing classic from the Popular Unity era in Chile. God knows that election was about, you know, real shit, but that word "venceremos" is still fun to sing. And yes, we all know what eventually happened in Chile, too. But this election is about stopping the slow-but-steady lurch in that direction.

This is a very timely entry on several levels. I have to say it made me teary eyed at first, because of what happened after that significant victory of a country that tried to carry out the great experiment through therough peaceful elections( a great lesson of a.what is possible and b. the capitalists prefer blood vs. a peaceful transition.)
By the end of the song I was charged up remembering the news reports on Spanish tv that Ortega (Sandinista National Liberation Front) is on the verge of winning back the presidency of Nicaragua(sight of another heroic experiment in our hemisphere).

As we prepare for victory here, we do well to remember that this victory represents not just the quantitave change of more of our erstwhile friends in office vs. our clear enemies, but more significantly a qualitative change of will amongst to the people towards the ultra-right.
Not to mention that one our first duties as revolutionaries is to fight for the survival of the people and the class so that achieving a great experiment in our country is is even a possibility- starvation(imprisonment{sp?}, facist oppression, ect.) doesn't cause revolution it causes confusion. (gosh I think I'm rambling, but I hope it makes sense)
